ODB Five Year Memorial

odb

ODB 1968-2004

Five years ago today, Russell Jones, aka Ol’ Dirty Bastard, died of an accidental drug overdose. As one of the founding fathers of the Wu Tang Clan, ODB contributed heavily to the hip hop world. The Wu Tang’s debut release “36 Chambers”, and Jones’ first solo record “Return to the 36 Chambers”, are two of the most praised albums in hip hop. Later changing his stage name to Sweet Baby Jesus, and Dirt McGirt, Jones was known for his unusual and eccentric personality. One of his most infamous appearances took place during the 1998 Grammy Awards. He rushed the stage after his group lost “Best Rap Album” to Puff Daddy and grabbed the mic. “Please calm down, the music and everything. It’s nice that I went and bought me an outfit today that costed a lot of money today, you know what I mean? ‘Cause I figured that Wu-Tang was gonna win. I don’t know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. You know what I mean? Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best, Okay? I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!” Peace to a legend. RIP ODB.

Gucci Mane Going To Jail Again

Gucci Mane has been sentenced to twelve months in the slammer AGAIN. And AGAIN for parole violation for his 2005 assault charge. He’s gotta stay on top of his community service for real. The timing is bad, since his album “The State vs Radric” is set to be released on December 8th. With good behavior, he could be out in six months. Stop fuckin up Gucci Mane.

Ghostface in NYC and more Joe Budden beef

dsc_0650

On tour for his latest album Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry, Ghostface came home on 11/11 to perform at BB King’s. With left hand man, Trife Diesel, Starks pleased the crowd with tracks from all of his solo albums like Supreme Clientele and Pretty Toney, as well as  other Wu Tang albums like 36 Chambers and GZA’s Liquid Swords.

He stressed that hip hop is dying and gave props to legends like Nas, Rakim, and KRS-One.He also gave praise to the main players of Wu Tang, with the exception of The RZA. Could this stem from their 2006 dispute over the release dates of The Big Doe Rehab and Eight Diagrams?

Later in the night, after a surprise performance by The Ultramagnetic MC’s (minus Kool Keith), Ced Gee gave a lecture on the state of hip hop, and ripped on Joe Budden. “Fuck Joe Buddens,” he said. Before Gee left the stage, he continued to diss the face of Slaughterhouse. “Tell that nigga Joe Budden to come see me. I’m in Jersey City all day.” Ghostface made no comment regarding Budden, and just went on with his set until closing with “Do Over” sans Raheem DeVaughn.

Sesame Street: 12 And Pinball Animation

I cant remember if I was a avid Sesame Street watcher when I was a small child my mom says I was. I do remember this off Sesame Street, when my parents first got a VCR way back in the days of video cassettes my mom taped a whole bunch of cartoons and there was an episode of Sesame Street with this Pinball Animation as a segment. The reason for this post is esame Street is celebrating its 40th anniversary today.
