How kick ass is the photo above, you gotta love the simple things that make kids smile. It really is one of the best joys in life…….

So another year has pasted 28 turns to 29, honestly the thought hasn’t set in yet. I’m a year away from 30…Yes 30. Thats kind of a miles stone for someone who still giggles at boobie jokes.

I wasn’t excited for 29, I wanted 28 to end and maybe time would allow me to just be in limbo between 28 and 29 forever. 29 is fucken scary, its the last year of your twenties. That number makes you look back and reflect on the shit you did or didn’t do. Its the age where people say your going to be 30, get off your ass, make something of yourself. This is the year that you see most of your friends getting married, pushing out some kids. All the while you date an endless surplus of twenty two year olds and other lost souls (which isn’t a total wash)

I hope age 29 will bring me piece of mind I did not receive at 28. Does piece of mind even exists or is it a pipe dream? Like banging your high school crush at the reunion. The radio/music business like any other business is a bitter pill to swallow. There is no “piece of mind”, no certainty. I have lived most of my teens and twenties with tons of uncertainty. Do I have it in me to repeat this cycle in thirties? I am no longer a kid with dreams of being the Howard Stern of the hip hop world. There is just an insane amount of fickleness and bullshit associated with an industry that reminds me of the “cool kids lunch table”. Its difficult to tell the differences between those who have a good heart and those who are just out there to win.

A lot of people asked, where I disappeared to for almost a year. I took a sabbatical from doing anything music related that pertained to the constant hustle. I was burning an already short candle at both ends. The only thing I did was the work that was expected, no more no less. I needed to just do what was expected and nothing else. It re-set the button in my brain. Dont get me wrong I enjoy doing what I do, I’m Siriusly good at it. It has its ups and down in terms of what lane best suits me, but isn’t that any job?

I made an agreement with myself that if I’m not where I need to be in a year, on my 30th birthday than maybe its time to retire. I know where I need to be. I will not get into the details. I have no problem giving my self the best of luck on your future endeavor speech. I’ve toyed with this idea for 3 years now. I feel like Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan, I don’t know when to hang it up so I keep going since its the only thing I know. Its been in my life for the better part of 12 years.

I’ve been around C.E.O’s of billion dollar companies, multi millionaire rap/radio personalities and celebrities. I’ve seen how the other half live. Its pretty fucken sweet, I want that. Yet I’m coming to terms with if it don’t happen I’m ok. I don’t want the constant headache of over plotting my career on this interview, that exclusive or even my entire lot in life. Ive done that so much so far that I have gotten my self sick several times where I just shut down, not giving a fuck about any of it.

It all stems back to wanting “piece of mind.” I can not keep doing what I’m doing with no sort of pay off. You might be asking whats the payoff? The pay off an income that can keep me above water. I’m a grown man who would like to start a family. The idea of a wife, a few babies and a home sounds like really good things. Im not saying I’m ready to walk down an isle or have a kid right this minute but somewhere down the road it sounds like a nice thing to have. I don’t think I can start a family struggling waiting for a big break that may never come.

Ive seen my parents struggle living paycheck to paycheck, so my hunger to go above and beyond and not just get by fuels me more than ever. Im not saying that I grew up with out. I’m just saying that I knew when Dad got laid off times got kinda rough. But I give my parents credit they never showed the burden of just getting by. It wasn’t until years later I realized my parents had amazing poker faces and did what they had to do to keep a household in order.

My parents were never type to force all their goals on my brother and I. They always told us live your own life, “we just want you to be happy at what you do.” I often think how the fuck am I going to have it together like my parents?

Ive always worked hard and I knew that if I was going to make this year really count I had to quit my 12 year part time job. I hated that job for years. The major factor for keeping the job for so long was my healthcare was covered. I took a huge leap of faith quitting but I knew it was time to go. Talk about a burden lifted off my shoulders, life just seems better leaving that dreaded supermarket. I have healthcare but its only for short amount of time. After it runs out I have to figure out whats next with that. Healthcare was never a thought till I turned twenty five. Now its one of those safe words you need in your vocabulary when your on the cusp of thirty.

Normalcy was another word I avoided like an STD. My thought process was normalcy is like a fucken disease who wants to deal with alarm clocks and regularly scheduled business hours. Looking back I was wrong, I now think normalcy isn’t so bad. You know what’s normal seeing your bank account increasing and being practical in your dreams. There is a small humbling happiness with living that life. I know people who are very happy living that level of life. Is that life for me? I currently cant say. Im not ready to settle down and take that typical 9 to 5. I have toyed with that thought but I’m not ready to settle for anything less than what I want. Is that selfish? Yeah but there is a lot of selfishness in this world. Maybe I will concede to that idea one day but for now I have to see where this road leads.

What prompted all these feeling was my ex breaking up with me. I know its a clique, the immature dude wants to change his life to get the love of his life back and magically it all falls into place. It has all the makings of a romantic comedy starring Justin long, I get it. Yet it wasn’t like that she totally broke my fucken heart but I knew it was over when it was all said and done. Im not overly sappy because I sit here, minutes away from my 29th as a write this. Shockingly I realized it more after she was gone that I wanted to marry her. Had we gotten back together she would have been Mrs Sparks.

Yet I always felt in her mind it was either her or the music and I couldn’t have both. I couldn’t find the words and thought she would fill in the blanks, since it was almost 3 years one would assume the person you share your world with would know when the other was conflicted. The common sense should start to tingle. Its not like I have a issue sharing my emotions yet I said nothing. I could have been more vocal maybe it would have helped. My major gripe was being very angry. I would have wanted nothing more than for both stubborn sides to swallow our respected prides and say I’m sorry and I need you and only you. It took along time to heal and realize what I REALLY want from a girl. I can never settle for anything less. Sometimes you think back and miss the quiet things that no one ever knows. But shit happens and you have to move on and realize it takes two to be one.

Physical pain is never as tough as the doubts and fears of mental pain. Its always when a relationship ends that all those feeling boil to the surface. I carried a lot of fear deep in my heart for a long time. it consumed me so much that I completely shut off from my ex, my friends and family. Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, not having any real financial stability. Things I never vocalized. At that moment in time I needed my ex and she just couldn’t or wouldn’t be there for reasons I didn’t understand, and still don’t. Looking back does anyone really need someone like that in their life? No…But for the longest time I thought I did.

I analyzed ever reasons for the problems in my former relationship. At first I thought it was because of all the time devoted to my career. Time I probably could have used to devote making us stronger. I felt so guilty for working and sacrificing towards a dream. I’ll admit I took my ex for granted toward the end. I didn’t put as much effort into the relationship as she’s expected me to, thinking she’d understand that I have to do this interview or go DJ for a rapper for zero dollars but told her the look was good. In reality maybe I should have had more smarts to realized that our time was ours and not being super late when we did make plans or totally blowing off ALL her families events. The ex was just as guilty as I was in that whole situation right down to the text message break up on her part.

Nothing destroys your self worth more than a text message breakup. That shit lead to a bitter resentment toward her and where I was going at that point in my life. Most of my last few months…Shit who am i kidding most of last year was a haze. Than right around Easter my mind got free and clear. For the first time in a very long time I went to confession and spoke with the priest. I hadn’t went in so long I didn’t know the process but he was understanding and asked what was in my heart and troubling my mind. I said I don’t want to be sad and angry anymore. I wanted to let all that poison I was carrying go. It’s a bad feeling to harbor so much anger and sadness. I was in no shape to give girl a chance to be let in. I thought I’d rather drown in self-pity and wallow than let another girl into my heart.

I told the priest I felt as if I was haunted by some sort of ghost in my dreams, maybe it was me not being that man I wanted to be or the fact I was empty inside. Whatever it was, it made me have the same dream over and over. Dreams to me at least are nothing more than the non druggie’s version of an LSD hallucination. I had a lot of conflicted emotional shit going on at the time, so my dreams where a constant reminder of life is messy and sometimes shit happens.

What a self loathing subconscious huh, maybe its punishment for not acting on a wedding proposal I had in mind quicker. I have no explanation why I didn’t do so. I was in the process of saving every penny for a nice rock. During the time of my ill faded romance I was caught in a real shit storm, super broke, thinking I was going nowhere fast. After a good 40 minutes of just me speaking the priest told me I had to let that stuff go in order to work on me.

I was with that girl for 3 years of my life. She had everything of me, my secrets, my thoughts, my laughs, my heart, my soul. Thats the kind of love that sears into your heart, I hope all who read this know I’m not sulking and broken hearted any longer. I think all who read this can relate that there’s always going to be a lover you will just never forget and feel for. The only way you can get them out your mind is to just shut them out of your life. Ill never get the opportunity to tell her in a rational well spoke manor how I felt since I haven’t seen her in a year, so I guess the process of letting the anger go will be done here.

I’m sorry for everything I did or didn’t do. I’m sorry for losing my temper every single time we spoke after we broke up and hated you for choosing someone else over me. Im sorry for treating you like property. I’m sorry I didnt tell you I loved you when I knew I did. Im sorry for never attending your family gatherings. Most of all I’m sorry I gave up on us which caused you too do the same.

Im in a good place now my outlook on stuff is changing. The breakup has made me a much more level headed person, I learned that I wasn’t the man she wanted and Im ok with that NOW. I wasn’t ok with such a thought then and that was the worst part of this whole situation. I learning Women are notorious for changing their minds every, hmm, let’s say 5 minutes and some are on borrowed time.

Being single is cool till no one is around and empty sex is fun but worthless. Self pity is complete bullshit know your self worth. Never pay mind to the people that say guys shouldn’t get upset about losing a girl. They are just talking shit, when you have loved someone for so long and suddenly everything falls apart, its hard to find anything that can make you happy.

A man isn’t a man until he experiences loss, that real love type shit, meaning you have to know loss to know love. Im not saying I got life in check. Its going to be extremely difficult not to sweat things that I have know control over and painstakingly analyzing such. But one day at a time right…….
