Phony Ppl – Phonyland (album review)

Right off the heels of the Minosoar post comes the review of this album. Yes, I like to crank out my reviews quick, fast, and a hurry. Its how I prefer them.

Exerpt:

Phony Ppl is a young Brooklyn crew that immersed themselves in the classical art of being a true “band”. This is something quite uncommon within hip hop and R&B circles, however. The “band mentality” is actually dying off in R&B and never came to true fruition in hiphop outside of the Roots and a few others. Yet, this is how they best function. With Phonyland, they accomplish something quite remarkable: the construction of their own unique genre called Brooklyn Soul.

J.Force – Cadillac Respect (Mixtape)

Very early on in my career I was introduced to Staten Island dj, producer & emcee, J.Force. Shit in my mind J.Force is a goddamn legend the dude knows some of the best of the best to ever wax poetics in hip hop. I would play Force cuts from my mix tapes in there infancy and he would give me his feedback.

Force would also come kick it on my radio show and play records and educate my listeners on the backstories of some famous singles he was around to witness get recorded.

Recently J.Force released Cadillac Respect. Cadillac Respect is a 22 track project filled with a collection of SP-1200 revisits entirely produced by J.Force. I knew from jumpstreet Cadillac Respect would be very boom to the bap. Forces bring it back to the days of “exclusives” heard on Marley Marl & Pete Rock’s Future Flavas Radio Show.

John Graham – Success in Retrograde (review)

This is the best piece of music I had heard thus far in 2012. I think a lot of us need to actually hear this album. So, I will post his review here and a link to his site. Support real hip hop, people.

The review part:

Loyalist. Father. Frat brother. This is how I’ve gotten to know (but never met face to face) the man known as John Graham. Instead of giving in to the whims of commercialized music, he chooses to go a different route. John wants to make more positive music that lacks a lot of gratuity and foolishness. You will be hard pressed to hear curse words, misogyny, or hood tales glorified. What you WILL hear is a “teacher teaching the masses”. Think KRS One without being as preachy. In fact, Success Is Retrograde is actually a lyrical lashing over infectious production.

Outernational – Todos Somos Ilegales: We Are All Illegals (Album)

Jesse Blum was a major factor in the creation of my latest release Scumbino’s Way. Jesse is a talent musician who really helped get the sounds Mike Cash and I had in our brains come to life.

Jesse is in a band called Outernational think Mexican conjunto music but with testosterone. The band released a free mixtape featuring Tom Morello (you know the guy from Rage Against The Machine), Chad Smith and Calle 13. The production is strong and the music is that good, that I can picture Robert Rodriquez using some cuts, in one of his movies that takes place in Mexico.

Give it a listen, download it. Open your minds to something outside your realm, who know’s you might even enjoy thinking outside your usual box.

Rick Ross – Rich Forever (mixtape)

Yep, I’m going to post this mixtape up here. Why? So you can have an easy way to access it, download it, or don’t download it. Hopefully, you will just listen if you are interested. Personally, I enjoy his foolishness on the microphone. I could care less about him being a fake gangster. Let some people tell it, a lot of these rappers perpetrate facades for the sake of promotion, media bliss, and unforgiving racist policies. But I digress. Its all entertainment to ME.

The Ghostface Beat Tape

Coming straight from the DMV is The Ghostface Beat Tape. Basically, it is beats that are inspired by Ghostface Killah. People have undoubtedly concluded that Ghostface has one of the best ears for beats in hip hop (ever). Yet, many don’t recognize his ear for music and mathematical maniac lyricism with consistent support. Its okay, though. The man knows how to make that classic music. This is why this beat tape was made
