THATS RIGHT… RE-ARRANGE THE LETTERS IN THE WORD LIVES AND SPELL ELVIS!
Today the nation, world, and fans of music history and American Pop-Culture celebrate the legacy of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley who died at the age of 42 on this very day in 1977. 34 years ago, Presley as an unfortunate result of prescription substance addiction and other health issues passed away due to Cardiac Arrhythmia. (heart attack) and was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30pm. Presley died in his Graceland mansion.
Even though Elvis is gone, he is certainly not forgotten and has truly left behind an amazing legacy of music, movies, short films, tours, albums, clothing, memorabilia, and an incredible museum dedicated to his reign as the King in his at the time huge (but now considered small) off the strip chapel converted into a mansion house, which is known as Graceland.
Presley is the most quintessential and iconic figure of cool and pizzaz in the music world. From his clothing, to his swagger, and his southern boy hospitality, Elvis is loved by millions. He is the most honored and impersonated artist, to date with performers of all nationalities, heights, races, weights, and colors. Even woman dress up as the king!
Although his films were quite cliche and predictable, Presley still succeeded through being on screen with his charisma, style and chart topping hit singles to come out of movies like “Blue Hawaii,” “GI Blues,” and “Viva Las Vegas.” He enjoyed film making but even he himself grew bored and worn out of the cliche musical films and a piece of trivia for all buffs out there is this, Elvis was originally offered the role that Kris Kristofferson got in the film “A Star is Born,” but his manager and long time shake down artist of a friend Colonel Tom Parker, turned the offer down because he wanted Presley to continue touring and being the money making machine that he was in the late 70s up until his unfortunate death.
As far as being charitable, Elvis was the type of guy who made $1000.00 and gave $4000.00 away to local children’s hospitals, causes, and personal charity cases like the lady he met on the street one day who had car trouble, and he decided to buy her a brand new cadillac!
Many and any all across the country and world today reflect, remember and relive the greatest era of life whether they were alive or not, THE ELVIS ERA. He ruled the world from the 50s to the 70s and continues to rule the music industry from beyond. Up until this past year, he was the highest record selling artist of all time, and still has new music release annually from holiday compilations to remixes and duet projects that his genius Elvis Presley Enterprises puts together under the leadership of Priscilla his ex-wife and mother to his beloved Lisa Marie, who followed in her dads footsteps as a performer and charity worker!
As far as spiritual, Elvis was a very devout man in his faith and even recorded three Gospel albums in his career where he received the only Grammy’s ever for his musical work.
He was the type of artist that would become inspired by other famous and well respected names in the industry and cover their songs, and make them better than the original artists did. In fact Elvis was the heaviest influence on the Beatles, so its quite the contrary to what many Beatle Enthusiasts believe. Personally his version of Hey Jude is better than the Fab Fours… true story bro…
But I digress, today we all remember and recollect on the man and artist that Elvis was and in his prime vocally he left this planet. I never lived in a world where Elvis was alive and could only imagine what it would be like to have had him in my world. What I can say is, as a performer and artist myself, Elvis has impacted and been a major part of who I am as a performer and human being! May he always be as legendary as we allow him to be. When he was given the award for Outstanding Man of the Year in 1970 he stated in his acceptance speech, “Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain’t got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend — without a song.” So I keep singing a song.”
Thank you, Thank you very much and Long Live The King…
