ODB 1968-2004

Five years ago today, Russell Jones, aka Ol’ Dirty Bastard, died of an accidental drug overdose. As one of the founding fathers of the Wu Tang Clan, ODB contributed heavily to the hip hop world. The Wu Tang’s debut release “36 Chambers”, and Jones’ first solo record “Return to the 36 Chambers”, are two of the most praised albums in hip hop. Later changing his stage name to Sweet Baby Jesus, and Dirt McGirt, Jones was known for his unusual and eccentric personality. One of his most infamous appearances took place during the 1998 Grammy Awards. He rushed the stage after his group lost “Best Rap Album” to Puff Daddy and grabbed the mic. “Please calm down, the music and everything. It’s nice that I went and bought me an outfit today that costed a lot of money today, you know what I mean? ‘Cause I figured that Wu-Tang was gonna win. I don’t know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. You know what I mean? Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best, Okay? I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!” Peace to a legend. RIP ODB.

There will never be another Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Ason Unique, Big Baby Jesus, Uncle Dirt Dog, Dirty The Moocher. There was no father to his style & he birthed one all his own.
