If I had as many love affairs as you have given me credit for, I’d now be speaking to you from a jar at the Harvard Medical School.- Frank Sinatra

“We work in the same way, only in different areas!” – Sinatra (when speaking about Elvis Presley)
Just a week after from Memorial Day and a week before Flag Day, we are in one of the most patriotic times of the year, even with 4th of July around the corner, lets take a moment to pause and shout out our servicemen/women overseas who defend our land every day for us to have the safety and freedom to enjoy everyday life!
What does this have to do with today’s Sinatra Sunday post? Well upon Elvis Presley’s return from the military, Frank Sinatra planned and threw a television return special in honor of the not yet King of Rock! In 1960 Presley returned after a three year stint serving our nation overseas in Germany. On the first evening of his return, Presley held a press conference and was whisked to ABC television studios on a private jet sent by Frank Sinatra to his Memphis residence of Graceland. There, he boarded flight and made an impact on viewers across the globe that evening when he appeared with Frank on a special called “Welcome Home Elvis.”
Presley respected and loved the artistry that was Frank Sinatra, and Sinatra, like a god father to Presley in the industry cashed in on it and looked relevant in his working with Presley on the road to rebuilding both their comebacks. Elvis would begin a film career and Sinatra would re record new music after a successful film career. Elvis later followed Sinatra’s suit with an engagement of a few years in Vegas, new music and tours.
On the special, Sinatra sang Love Me Tender (from Presley’s first motion picture) and Presley sang Witchcraft. Both loved each others songs and these were each others favorites.
Toady for Sinatra Sunday, enjoy a little taste of both artists taking each others work, mashing it together, and making it their own!
