Jay-Z and Kanye – N***as in Paris (epileptic video)

If you are prone to epileptic seizures, please do not watch. Also, if you hate this song…please do not watch. Yet, if you enjoy this album, song, or this duo…by all means enjoy. That is all I need to say.

Jay-Z x B.I.C. – Glory

I know Jay-Z is going to be a great father. He is already starting out on the right foot: giving immediate love to his daughter. This song is so real and heartfelt that you gotta respect it for what it is. Some will give him strife about previous children he may have “fathered”. I don’t have anything to do with that. What I DO care about is his effort right here, right now.

Jump Off TV – Drake’s Album and Classic Albums

I’m glad that they all understand that Drake makes soft boy music. No matter if you feel that it is, or is not, hip hop. It is still some soft music made for the masses. Now, what should be understood is that he is not for everybody. I personally enjoy his music no matter my opinion on it being a little out of my manly understanding (“Marvin’s Room” crafted to greateness. The subject matter? Leaves a lot to be desired for any man. Seriously. It is a hater song.). And yes, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is harder than Take Care. Keep it real.

Meanwhile, what really makes a classic album? Classic albums, to me, must be albums that people of both generations (experienced and inexperienced) listen to the album and truly understand that the music was so lush and exuberant that you will instantly understand WHY and HOW and know exactly what attracted them to the music. Yet, this is all based upon opinion. Also, like Jas stated, it is EXTREMELY important to know the artist’s catalog. It wouldn’t be fair to come in to listening to Jay-Z from Watch The Throne. You have to experience the artist’s catalogue to understand it fully.

That’s my take and I’m sticking to it.

Young Jeezy feat. Jay-Z and Andre 3000 – I do (Funkmaster Flex version)

With unnecessary bombs and all, this is the song that the internet has been going insane about. Whipping that Lenny Williams sample and some other musical touches, what we have is probably the closest thing to a “hit” that Jeezy has released for his new album.

9th Wonder Interview with Page 31

As we all know, 9th Wonder released his album The Wonder Years recently to rave reviews and nice independent sales. In this interview with 9th Wonder, there is a discussion on Raekwon, the validity of Mac Miller, and making beats for multi-platinum entertainment entities. As usual, 9th keeps it real with his southern charm.

Interview excerpt:

P31: It’s really special you’re the type of producer/artist that can work with the new school and the old school. You got the young cat Mac Miller on there, how do you feel about Mac and where he stands in the game?

9th: Better not nobody say a bad word about that dude man. Man, I blast people on twitter man. I might hit somebody in the face for saying something bad about Mac Miller man. Because he just breathes positivity, and I love positive people, and I hate negative people. Nobody is connecting with their fans the way he is, and it’s completely honest. He’s not trying to be anything he’s not, which is a bad epidemic in Hip-Hop; you got a whole lot of niggas lying. Doing things, and being things that they’re not because they think that gets them somewhere. Mac Miller is totally opposite. He’s from Pittsburgh, he loves Hip Hop, he likes to party at his shows, and his shows are incredible. I’m not on the Mac Miller payroll either, he don’t pay me to say this.

Dead End Hip Hop | Webisode 34: Carter IV vs. The Throne

This debate became so heated in such little time. It went from trying to understand how a critcally bashed album (for the most part) sold so many records….to a debate about whether or not Jay-Z/Kanye even care about not selling more than Wayne. All egos aside, I don’t think they truly care. For one, their music is superior. For another thing, there is the understanding that you can’t expect to sell as much as you used to in this dirty game.

Game of Thrones- Editorial

Hiphopdx.com unleashed an editorial dealing with sales, hip hop albums, and how the quality of music usually occurs within those parameters. There was a lot of truth introduced in this article:

*Out of the 44 albums deemed a classic by The Source, only a few of them were big sellers. Many went platinum (eventually), but for the most part, they didn’t bring in blockbuster numbers

* Album sales have more to do with mass appeal than musical quality.

* A lot of the top selling hip hop albums over the last decade weren’t “classic”. Many were really good. A couple were “eh”.

It is just one of those articles that clear up the air about the meaning behind sales.

100 Best Jay-Z Songs

Shout out to Complex for the list.

Let me be honest: I don’t agree with all the structured placements with the list. However, I rarely agree with these type of elongated lists. What I DO agree with is the sentiment of the list itself. It shows that Jay-Z has been working hard to push good/great/classic music for a decade and a half (give or take a few years). People want to say he should retire. I say he should keep going until he just can’t rap anymore.

Watch The Throne….chopped and screwed…never slopped and subdued…

What makes a great chopped and screwed album? First of all, it needs to be mixed very well. Second of all, it needs to be slowed down so either the promethyzene, purp, patron, or codeine that is in your system slows you down to recognize the essence of the aesthetic within your auditory canals. Third, having an OG Ron C stamp of approval should guarantee that it is worth the download. Disagree? Peep this out and tell me what you REALLY think. Watch the Throne may not be the classic everyone hoped for. However, it is still a seminal piece of art.

Affion Crockett (as Jay-Z) Responds to Lil Wayne Diss

Did anyone else see that video of Affion Crockett shook as all hell when Peter Gunz ran up on him? Pretty funny stuff. It’s obvious Affion kills this impersonation. Check it out for yourself!
