Main Attrackionz are two Bay Area experimental rappers known invidually as Squadda B and MondreM.A.N. If you haven’t listened to them yet, educate yourself because these guys are blowing up. Their album 808s & Dark Grapes II was recently released for FREE by Mishka, so check it out if you dig non-cookie-cutter hip-hop. It’s a definite hit on the blogosphere too. Their new single “Take 1″, is also graced by the up and coming Harlem MC, ASAP Rocky. The track features production by Cam Casino, and the sampling of the late great ODB. Listen to “Take 1″ below.

ODB 1968-2004
Five years ago today, Russell Jones, aka Ol’ Dirty Bastard, died of an accidental drug overdose. As one of the founding fathers of the Wu Tang Clan, ODB contributed heavily to the hip hop world. The Wu Tang’s debut release “36 Chambers”, and Jones’ first solo record “Return to the 36 Chambers”, are two of the most praised albums in hip hop. Later changing his stage name to Sweet Baby Jesus, and Dirt McGirt, Jones was known for his unusual and eccentric personality. One of his most infamous appearances took place during the 1998 Grammy Awards. He rushed the stage after his group lost “Best Rap Album” to Puff Daddy and grabbed the mic. “Please calm down, the music and everything. It’s nice that I went and bought me an outfit today that costed a lot of money today, you know what I mean? ‘Cause I figured that Wu-Tang was gonna win. I don’t know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. You know what I mean? Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best, Okay? I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!” Peace to a legend. RIP ODB.
