As Raw came to a close last night, we saw the image of Ryback in a racing jacket and skully reminiscent of (GOLDBERG) staring at a fallen John Cena. WWE announced a few days ago that Cena injured his right Achilles tendon on the European tour, which in turn drew speculation on whether he would miss time and drop the title in the process. That doesn’t look like the case as he is still working with the injury and the match with Ryback will be on for Extreme Rules in May. It was one of the main focal points on a really good episode of Monday Night Raw.
Just like last week with its debut, I’ll discuss three points that were good and three that were bad. Surprisingly enough, there wasn’t much that was BAD on this show, but a few that irked me:
I should be hopped on caffeine right now as this college life is draining me, but it didn’t stop me from watching a pretty good Monday Night Raw. Emanating from London, England during their annual European tour, it was highlighted with a John Cena/Ryback confrontation alongside Mick Foley, Fandango continuing to be a sensation, and a 6-Man Tag Main Event that featured Undertaker’s first in-ring match on Raw in 3 years. To be honest, I only watched bits and pieces of this show due to school priorities, but there were some parts I really liked. So without further ado, I’ll discuss the top 3 things that were really cool and 3 things that just sucked.
How can you not love the television NXT has been producing. WWE really has a great crop of new talent that can really develop and carry over on to RAW and Smackdown.
By now all who read this website and follow me on twitter know, Kassius Ohno is like my brother, so anything I blog, in reference to his work, may come off as one sided. I say fuck off!!!!! Kassius is an amazing performer and is a wrestlers, wrestler. Over all just a great a person.
Regal is another class act who can still wrestle. I like the role Regal has taken. Developing talent and teaching the next crop of guy the old school style. I giggle every time Regal, said Kassius in his English accent. It was so proper like Kassy Us…… Anyway this is shaping up to be a nice program and I like Kassius as a heel.
I always enjoyed his matches with Benoit and Regal. Finlay and Angle had some incredible matches as well, they both come from amateur backgrounds. Finlay is from old school Collar and elbow/British style of wrestling.
You should know Finlay is widely credited for working with the WWE Divas who could actually wrestle, Trish Stratus, Lita, Mickie James. Even Batista has said that Finlay was instrumental in his growth and career. Along with William Regal Finlay should have been a World Champion.
What many consider a legendary title reign is completely over. I am baffled over yesterdays Royal Rumble, especially since Punk was used to set up twice in a lifetime. For fuck sakes WWE could have given Punk a more gracious ending. Yes its cool, The Rock has become champion, he’s very entertaining, but I felt Vince or whoever is in control of the book buried the greatest champion in recent years. Yes I called Punk the greatest champion in recent years. The crappy part is Punk doesn’t sell tickets to the masses, But Punk fans aren’t Punk fans the way Rock sells tickets to his “millions”.
What was the point of 434 days? Was it for Rocky to hold the title for three months then drop it to Cena and leave again? I was in a room full of people and said well Punk’s donzo since Cena won the rumble.
The outcome didn’t piss me off. EVERYONE knew this was going to happen. SO there was no shock Punk lost, all roads lead too “Once” in a Lifetime…TWO.
With Royal Rumble an hour away I wanted to share my favorite/best booked Rumbles of all time. We will never see another Royal Rumble like this ever again. We all know the winner gets a title shot at WrestleMania, but in 1992, things were a bit different. The winner would be crowned champion. The WWF Title was held up and vacant due to controversy from the 1991 Survivor Series between Undertaker, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.
In my opinion this is the greatest Royal Rumble of all time. For one the roster for this rumble was Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Sid Justice, Randy Savage, Sgt.Slaughter, Roddy Pipper, Rick Martel and Kerry Von Eric just to name a few. Heenan and Monsoon were amazing on this commentary, they did a fantastic job putting Flair over. The back and fourth between Gorilla and Bobby was high energy and extremely entertaining for over an hour. The unfair to Flair still makes giggle.
Flair’s performance was remarkable, as he entered the match at number three of thirty and wrestled for an hour. Slick Ric always referred to himself as the 60 minute man. Ric Flair winning the Rumble at number three really says a lot. Flair was the first non-Vince guy to win the WWF championship. How can somebody say this isnt the greatest rumble of all time?
The ending was always awkward but worked. The final four were Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Sid Justice and Randy Savage. Epic I know. Savage gets eliminated first. Hogan gets Flair over the top rope but Sid sneaks up and ELIMINATES Hogan! ShockingSid eliminates Hulk Hogan the cheers when Hogan got dumped out, makes me pop every time, fans finally got tired of his gimmick and tyrannical ”win-everything” behavior. Anyway Flair eliminates Sid Justice with outside assist from Hogan who for being the baby face looked like a sore loser. Bobby Heenan’s head explodes with joy and runs to the back to celebrate with Flair.
After the match a bunch of referees separate Hogan and Sid setting up the very boring main event for WrestleMania VIII. I didn’t like how Hogan spoiled Flairs moment, Flair never had the opportunity to celebrate in the ring. I had Flair as a guest on my radio show and asked about this. Flair said he never really thought about it because he was so over joyed being the WWF champion.
In the back WWF President Jack Tunney presents the WWF title to Ric Flair “Mean” Gene starts the interview and Flair is nothing but magic calling WWF Championship the only title in the world. Theres shit load of WOOOOO’s, Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect are money. I never understood why Mean Gene yells out put the cigarette out and has a disgusted look on his face.
After competing in the independent circuit around the world for more than 10 years, Kassius Ohno has come to WWE NXT with one goal in mind — to hurt the opposition. With a merciless attitude, this seasoned competitor takes pride in punishing anyone who dares to get in the ring and face his discus elbow.
Ohno has been teaming with fellow NXT standout Leo Kruger in recent weeks to take on rivals Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel. Ohno has also been taunting William Regal ever since the announcer came to Kidd’s defense.
I am patiently awaiting the WWE debut of Kassius Ohno. Seeing Ohno and Antonio Cesaro tag in the WWE would be of the most epic proportions. That may not happen for some time, but when it does remember it was on my site that spoke of that day. If you never saw the Kings Of Wrestling you totally missed out.
Hopefully WWE continues to give there NXT guys a god amount of time to develop and get comfortable with there characters. The SHIELD, Damien Sandow and Cesaro all have impressed me. This crop of NXT performers is really talented. Ohno is a very entertaining wrestler to watch, search youtube.
I would love to see Ohno feud with the IC champion Wade Barrett. Ohno has been using the elbow in his move set for years. I think it would be a cool program to see Elbow vs Elbow. Whatever the WWE has in store for Ohno, best believe he will always give 3000 percent.
Punks going for knee surgery. That’s gonna put a hair in his title reign’s orange juice, huh? Today Punk, as it is at 381 days as champion, he now has the longest WWE Championship run in the modern era. But the timing isn’t all bad. You see (as of this writing) the TLC ppv is a mere 10 days from now; now normally the company would kinda lean on the talent to get to the ppv, keep the buys up, put over who you gotta put over and go under the knife after the event…just ask Shawn Michaels’ L5-S1 (that’s a lower back disc to you humanoids).
The self absorbed persona of The Rock, might be for me might be my favorite Rock. The Rock is GOAT, but here you can see the hunger in his eyes. You saw the development of The Rock. He was getting more comfortable in his role as a heel and this is when he started to slowly get really over. By not saying nothing he said a lot.
The mark in me would like the old Rocky to come back even for one night. Younger fans who have never experienced that Rock with his $800.00 dollar shirts and mutton chop sideburns.
